Coral may look like plants or rocks, but in reality, thousands of living animals make up each individual coral. These tiny polyps join together to build hard exoskeletons, creating the reef structures that thousands of marine species depend on. But with rising ocean temperatures, pollution, and overfishing, coral populations are under threat. The Misool Foundation is working to reverse this decline around Misool Island in Indonesia. Through its 300,000-acre marine reserve, the foundation’s rangers, scientists, and community partners protect vulnerable reef areas, prevent destructive fishing, restore damaged coral, and support the long-term health of the ecosystem.
